Google Google services added to TKO
A big thanks to Mike for pushing the issue and getting us to add Google services to TKO!

The first thing you'll notice is that all TKO email is now handled by Google. This means you'll need to get your username and password from James before you'll be able to access your email again. If you already have your credentials, go ahead and start using your new TKO mail: http://mail.talbotkids.org

We've also added Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Sites. This will allow us to share documents and other information (even work on the same shared spreadsheets at the same time). Very cool.

Due to a number of factors including the incredible lack of use of the Gallery-2 based website, a number of complaints from Mike, and a years funding for this website by Joe... it's baaaaaack!

Enjoy.

News This 'n That from the folks . . .
Just a quick note to update you all with the latest news.

1. Dad was quoted in the August 2007 issue of Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine in an article on Health Insurance written by Kimberly Lankford. He spoke with her about COBRA, Conversion policies, HSA's and Utah law - not a very big quote - but he did contribute to her understanding of the insurance problems. His quote is on p. 64, if you are interested.

2. Robert and Pam arrive home tonight - in fact - about right this very minute they are probably getting off the plane! They are giving a homecoming/mission report on Sunday, July 8th in their ward (1300 South and Wasatch Blvd.) at 12:50 p.m. - if any of you would like to come hear them. They are also having an open house at their home following the meeting so we can all visit, and they have extended an invitation to all of you/us to come. I would love to have all of you there with us. I am so proud of them and honored to be their sister. They served a great mission, and are really delightful to listen to. Also - Robbie is getting married to a lovely little gal he met at BYU, Brooke - hmmm - can't remember her last name. They are getting married on Aug. 2nd.

3. Jenny, Paul, and the boys are arriving here for one week on Sunday, July 15th. We will be having a dinner here for everyone who can make it on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Jenny is so excited to see everyone. Please let me know whether or not you will be able to come, as I will need to plan on amounts of food. The family picture is off, as some of you will be out of town, and others have other obligations, so we just couldn't arrange it.

I love you all with all my heart! Mom

Security To Shred or not to Shred
Unclutter is running a good article on what you should shred.

I'm a shred happy person... I don't think most people understand or recognize the value in destroying personal and financial data.

Hopefully this helps clear things up.

Mike is AMAZING
Joe - thanks for the Exercising Ideas - it is always so good to hear new things to recommit your self.

Along those lines, I want to share something that didn't run on a website or in the newspaper, but is BIG news.

Mike has lost 85 pounds!! He has been an absolute inspiration to all of us! He has gone to the gym every day and has even run as much as 9 miles in one workout. He is absolutely dedicated with his eating habits, eating less (or none). He has worked so hard and it shows - he looks GREAT!!

His girls are so PROUD of him!! Congratulations MIKE!! You are truly an inspiration to us!!

Education 10 Exercising Ideas
Diet-Blog is running a short but sweet read, supplying you with 10 great ideas to getting yourself to exercise.

In short, here are the 10:
1. Know Thyself - Time of Day: commit to a time that you can handle.
2. Know Thyself - Comfort Zone: if you sweat and feel embarrassed, workout in a place you ARE comfortable.
3. Boredom Busters: mix up your routines.
4. Structure and Planning: plan when and where you're going to exercise. Write it down.
5. Surround yourself with like-minded people: duh.
6. Focus on the feeling after the session: the "ahhhhh" feelings, the good sleep, the energy... etc...
7. Stop thinking: All or Nothing: some workout is better than none.
8. What are your priorities?: figure this one out, for more than just exercise implications.
9. Remove the word "quit" from your mental vocabulary: goals are great but they should never be the end point.
10. It's not just about looks: exercise should be for quality of life, and the looks are just icing on the cake.

I know that I've gone through the wax and wane of faithfulness to my exercising. These are all good things to consider when establishing or refining your health habits.

Education Exercise Makes you Smarter
CNN Health is running a story on exercise and brain power claiming that exercise helps one grow more / new brain cells, specifically those involved with age-related memory loss. While memory may not entirely account for the sum of intelligence, it certainly helps when performing any type of mental task.

Array:
Exercise generated blood flow to the dentate gyrus of the people, and the more fit a person got, the more blood flow the MRI detected, the researchers found.

So get off your sofa and go get some smarts by pounding your feet against the asphalt.

Spam Reporting another Paypal Phisherman...
I know we've have all had bogus emails claiming to be from paypal and indicating that your account has had strange activity or some other load of bull... But how many of us take the time to turn those dirtbags in?

Paypal's official phishing guide will instruct you to:
Array:
1. Forward the entire email to spoof@paypal.com.
2. Do not alter the subject line or forward the message as an attachment.
3. Delete the suspicious email from your email account.

This will allow them to kick an email back to you saying that you have, in fact, found a bogus email and not to use their site...

If you really want to know where these posers are, make sure you have all the email header information showing... In hotmail, the option is buried under 'Options'->'Mail Display Settings' and will needs to be set to 'Advanced'

Email headers aren't cryptic and even you can locate where they are.

This is something that I always do and recommend everyone join in on.

And remember:
Array:
* Never provide any information.
* Never click on any link that seems suspicious.

Education Getting the Best DVD Media
DigitalFaq.com is running an interesting article on DVD media quality.

From the article:
Array:
Not all media is good. In fact, with the high influx of cheap media from Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, I'd venture to say most media is bad.

I can't speak for everyone, but I know that I have made plenty DVD coasters in my day.

Hope this helps you out, when you make your next DVD media selection!
